Linux - Unattended-Upgrades

Unattended-Upgrades Configuration (VM & LXC)#

Not Used, as a reference only

The objective of this guide is to safely automate software updates across a high-density environment of virtual machines and LXC containers, significantly reducing daily manual maintenance without compromising infrastructure stability. By shifting from a manual execution model to a structured deployment using the native unattended-upgrades utility, the system handles the download, installation, and post-update cleanup of all packages automatically in the background. Rather than allowing unpredictable automated reboots that could disrupt active services or interfere with critical backup windows, this configuration enforces a strict “notify-only” baseline. It leverage a lightweight mail client to alert the administrator immediately when a reboot is pending, combining hands-free patching with complete operational control.

Home Assistant - SSH Configuration

1 Home Assistant SSH Configuration#

1.1 Add SSH Keys#

To enable passwordless SSH access to your Home Assistant instance, you must have the SSH & Web Terminal add-on installed and Advanced Mode enabled for your user profile.

1.2 Configure Authorized Keys#

  1. Open the terminal within Home Assistant or via a console.
  2. Edit the authorized keys file:
nano /data/.ssh/authorized_keys
  1. Paste your public SSH key (e.g., from your Mac Studio or MacBook Air) into the file.
  2. Save and exit (Ctrl+O, Enter, Ctrl+X).

Ensure the SSH add-on configuration has the correct port (usually 22 or 2222) and that the “SFTP” or “SSH” services are started in the add-on’s dashboard.

Wake-on-LAN (WOL) Configuration & Inventory

Wake-on-LAN (WOL) Configuration & Inventory#

This guide covers how to enable, persist, and verify Wake-on-LAN (WOL) across Linux nodes and Proxmox hosts, followed by a comprehensive MAC address inventory for the local and remote clusters.

1. Verification & Manual Activation#

Check WOL Support#

Use ethtool to check if your network interface supports the “Magic Packet” (designated by the letter g).

# Replace eno5 with your actual interface name
ethtool eno5 | grep Wake-on

Home Assistant - Alarmo Presence Disarm

Home Assistant - Alarmo Presence Disarm#

2026-09-19#

Updated Home Assistant on root@10.1.2.200 after a false critical notification occurred as Marc arrived home.

Configuration decisions#

  • Marc and Nadine Home-area automations now call alarm_control_panel.alarm_disarm before sending their arrival notification.
  • The former “Auto Arm to HOME when we arrive HOME” behavior now keeps Alarmo disarmed when both people are home.
  • Alarmo’s built-in immediate “Notify Notify when triggered” automation is disabled.
  • A delayed Home Assistant automation, Alarmo - Delayed critical notification only while away, waits 10 seconds and notifies only if:
    • Alarmo is still triggered;
    • the arm mode is armed_away; and
    • neither Marc nor Nadine is in the home state.

This delay prevents a camera detection and geofence arrival update occurring almost simultaneously from producing a false critical notification.
